Greenwich Police say they observed a motorist traveling on Steamboat Road with another individual riding a skateboard while hanging onto the side of the vehicle on Friday, July 5 around 9:20 p.m.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and allegedly detected an odor of alcohol coming from the driver, identified as Michael Palmgren, 21, of Greenwich.

Palmgren was subsequently asked to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which police say he did not pass.

Palmgren also admitted to drinking a beer while driving the vehicle, and a cold, half-empty beer can was allegedly located inside the vehicle, according to police.

Police also say Palmgren did not possess a valid driver’s license.

Palmgren was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs
  • Operating without a license
  • Drinking while driving
  • Second-degree reckless endangerment

Palmgren was released after posting $250 bond and is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Friday, July 19.
